Last week alone, our teams were in Plymouth, England following the mass shooting; Port-au-Prince reporting on the Haiti earthquake; Australia, in the grip of another protracted Covid lockdown; and California, finding out about the first US town to ban new gas stations. With quiet like this, who needs busy?  <\/p><p class=\"p2\">And then there&#8217;s Afghanistan. Half the newsroom, it seems, is caught up in the story of the summer, with all its moving parts: the airport drama, the wider security implications, political humiliation, a doctrine demolished, a region upended, not to mention the countless personal tragedies within Afghanistan itself. The Guardian has been working with an inspiring group of women throughout these parlous days, publishing a string of urgent stories as the country teetered. Women report Afghanistan is a partnership with Rukshana media, a collective of Afghan women journalists who provided visceral coverage of the days when their lives changed for ever.   <\/p><p class=\"p2\">\u201cThe Rukshana journalists, in that week where their country was falling, were out reporting for this project 14-15 hours a day,\u201d said Annie Kelly, the Guardian editor overseeing the collaboration as part of our Rights and freedom project.<\/p><p class=\"p2\">The Guardian dealt with the translation and editing of stories for an international audience, but the reporting was entirely driven by the women of Rukshana. \u201cThey were filing copy as they were writing it. They were just astonishing \u2013 the speed at which they were doing the reporting and how good the reporting was when it came in,\u201d Annie said. <\/p><p class=\"p2\">With publication came a string of agonizing decisions. Does publishing bylines put the women at risk? What about the subjects interviewed? Ultimately, as with the stories themselves, the Guardian has been led by the Rukshana journalists. \u201cThe women were absolutely adamant they wanted their bylines on the story,\u201d Annie said.    <\/p><p class=\"p2\">Now, many of them are lying low and awaiting what is to come.
